Featured Volunteer - Rachel Banks
Rachel heard CARE from our vet, Dr. Bill McGee. Over the years a few of Rachel and her family's livestock have been brought to CARE as donations when they reached the end of their lives (read about how we feed here). After driving past the center a few times, Rachel decided to visit for a tour.
During the tour, Rachel met Savanna, a beautiful tiger who lost an eye to an injury. Rachel heard the story and what happened to Savanna and right then and there decided she wanted to help her. After researching CARE a little further and finding out about our adoption program, Rachel became Savanna's adoptive mom!
It wasn't long after that Rachel decided she also wanted to start volunteering which she has been doing since January of this year. What Rachel loves most about CARE is the ability to see all the animals and communicate with them. She loves working with the people at CARE and feels like it is a family. Cleaning and all the work we do is hard, but she thinks it is fun at the same time. It's like a mini vacation in the safari in the middle of a hectic life.
When Rachel isn't at CARE, she works in Downtown Dallas as a Natural Gas Commercial Scheduler at EnLink Midstream. The commute is 65 miles one way, about a two hour commute, so it is difficult to come out to CARE during the weeks. But you can find Rachel at CARE almost every weekend!
Rachel says that she might be giving money, donating items, etc to CARE but she feels like she is the one on the gaining end of the relationship. She feels blessed to be able to "have" her sweet baby Savanna to call hers, blessed to know people she can relate to, and blessed just to be able to spend time at CARE.
Thank you so much Rachel for everything you do for CARE!!
