Jaker
Sex: Male
Born: 4/22/12
Loving Adoptive Parents: Richard Dowdy

Jaker and Roscoe are Rita's twin boys. They were the last babies to be born and are almost impossible to tell apart (unless you weigh them since Roscoe is a few ounces smaller than Jaker). These guys are tons of fun. They love to play and explore and will gladly use you as a springboard to jump around their enclosure if you are nearby.

Stella
Sex: Female
Born: 4.7.12
Loving Adoptive Parents: The Newman Family – TX

Stella's mom is the alpha Ruth. Stella was incredibly shy when she was a baby, but maybe because her mom is so assertive, she has come out of her shell. She usually sticks pretty close to mom though, even though at her age most lemurs are more independent. She is friendly though and joins her young friends in fun and games when it is playtime. She won't pass up a snack from a human friend either!

Ruth
Lemur
Sex: Female
Loving Adoptive Parents: Frank and Sandy Mendel – Williamsville, NY

Ruth used to be the outcast of the troop. When she first came to us she was significantly smaller than the others and would turn her head repeatedly (probably due to neurological issues or nervous condition) that earned her the nickname "head-spinner".

She still gets nervous easily, but at some point became the alpha in the main troop. She now asserts herself over everyone, so much so that we had to remove a few other females and put them in a separate enclosure. She is also very pushy with her CAREtakers when they have treats and will pester you until you give her what she wants. She has a single baby named Stella who is quite attached to her mom. They are never found far away from each other.

Miss Stewart
Sex: Female
Born: 3.13.12
Loving Adoptive Parents: Jeff and Carrie Kovarsky – Dallas, TX

Miss Stewart was one of the first lemur babies born at CARE to mom, Akisa.  Stewart has one of the biggest personalities of all the troop. She is curious, playful and was always getting into trouble as a youngster. She lives with Rita and Mort in the secondary enclosure and occasionally appreciates a massage from her CAREtakers!

Lemur
Sex: Female
Loving Adoptive Parent: Megan Steinkerchner - Wadsworth, OH
Loving Sponsor: Available

Akisa was the original alpha female in the troop. Always first to do everything, she was one of the first females to give birth to her baby, Miss Stewart. After the unexpected arrival of the lemur babies, the dynamic of the troop changed and Akisa suddenly became the lowest ranking female.

Akisa is one of the shyest of the group around people. She is happy to be fed by people and will approach them, but other than that, has no interest in hanging around.

Mort
Lemur
Sex: Male
Loving Adoptive Parent: Kimberly Swaner in memory of Serena - Murray, UT

Mort was the only male in the original group of lemurs that arrived at CARE. Since females are dominant in Lemur troops, Mort is (literally) the low man on the totem pole. He doesn't mind though. He has a very cool and calm demeanor and has no problem letting the ladies take the lead.  He also has proved himself to be a great baby-sitter!  When all of the females in the troop had their babies, Mort served as nanny and playmate. The babies seemed drawn to Mort and would often be found climbing all over him.
