What Do Big Cats Say?

Working with big cats can be stressful at times, to say the least. Besides the obvious issues of working closely with these large, dangerous predators, there is always work to be done and things to worry about. Funding and volunteers are always in short supply. The cats sustain injuries and suffer from illnesses that we must treat. We worry about them constantly, and as they get older, we must deal with their passing with increasing frequency. The interns work 7 days a week, from sun-up to sun-down without pay and have a huge learning curve to overcome. Almost all of our volunteers have full-time jobs and then fit in working with CARE in their few spare hours. It is not an easy life. But, we are all rewarded with being around these magnificent animals and knowing that our hard work and sacrifices mean a better life for them!

Still, it can get a little tense sometimes. So, having a sense of humor is a MUST around CARE. You have to be able to have fun and be a little wacky to do what we do. No one in the organization personifies this more than Derek Krahn, our Operations Director. He is a little....off. But in the best way possible because he will do just about anything for the animals at CARE, including making a fool of himself. And we all appreciate that so much!

Last year, Derek made a great big cat themedspoof of the 2012 You Tube viral hit "Gangnam Style". This year he had to top that masterpiece, and we are pretty sure he succeeded. Check out Derek's newest magnum opus, "What Do Big Cats Say" based off of 2013's wacky hit song, "What Does the Fox Say?"

The month of February marks Max’s first birthday!! He is such a beautiful boy and so content here with Mia.

And, Max is also the ONLY animal here at CARE without an honorary adoptive parent. What would make a better birthday gift for him than to contribute to his care every month?

If you are interested in adopting Max, please visit the Adopt or Sponsor page on our website at carerescuetexas.com!

We want the money raised to go towards a new John Deere gator for facility maintenance, cleaning, and feeding or for a 6 seater golf-cart (so that people with disabilities or difficulty walking can tour the compound).
